Proxy glossary

What is a dedicated proxy?

A dedicated proxy is an IP address that only you use for as long as you rent it, where a shared proxy splits one IP between several customers.

Dedicated proxy explained

Also called private proxy.

On a shared IP, other customers' behaviour lands on you. If one of them gets the address flagged on a site, it is flagged for you as well. Shared is cheaper for exactly that reason.

On a dedicated IP the address's reputation is yours to keep or ruin. That matters most for logins and long sessions, and for anything where one bad neighbour could cost you an account.

For example

Your price tracker on a shared datacenter IP keeps hitting CAPTCHAs on a shop you check twice a day. Someone else on that IP is scraping the same shop hard. On a dedicated IP, the only traffic the shop sees from it is yours.

How it works at ProxyMonkey

  • ISP and datacenter come in 3 plans. Shared splits an IP between 3 users and includes 1 GB of traffic per IP, with more sold per GB. Dedicated gives you the IP alone, with no traffic meter. A faster uplink is a paid add-on. Premium gives you the IP alone, with no traffic meter, plus a fresh IP nobody has used before and the option to swap the IP yourself.
