Switzerland proxies

Switzerland sits in the middle of Europe but outside the EU, prices in francs and speaks three main languages. International stores often run a separate Swiss shop, and a German or French address shows you the wrong one.

Buying for Switzerland

Mo’s pick for Switzerland

Start on Datacenter.

Comparison checks are occasional loads of retail pages, and at that pace most shops do not look at what kind of address you are on, so a Swiss datacenter IP, labelled honestly as a server, does the job. Switch to ISP for Ricardo auctions you follow to the end, where you reload the same page again and again.

ISP and datacenter cost the same per IP right now, so the choice comes down to whether the site cares what kind of address you are on.

Why Switzerland

What people check from here

Swiss prices are famously high, so the classic check here is a comparison: the Swiss price of a product next to its German or French one, with customs and delivery added. Swiss sites also pick a language for the visitor, and one that serves the German-speaking cantons in German, Romandy in French and Ticino in Italian is worth checking in all three.

  • Swiss prices next to German and French ones
  • Galaxus and Digitec prices in CHF
  • Ricardo auctions and tutti.ch listings
  • A site in de-CH, fr-CH and it-CH

Switzerland questions

Which language will Swiss sites show me?

The IP says Switzerland, not which part of it. Most Swiss sites take the language from your Accept-Language header or a switch on the page, so send de-CH, fr-CH or it-CH for the version you want to check.

Do online stores treat Switzerland as part of the EU?

Usually not. Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, so international stores add Swiss VAT and customs, or send you to a separate Swiss shop. A Swiss IP shows you which, before you order.

Ordering, stock and metering work the same in every country: see the locations page.

The community layer

Stuck on a Switzerland target? Ask the channel.

Say which site you are checking from Switzerland and what it is doing to you. Someone has usually hit the same wall and will tell you which line gets past it before you spend anything.
