Use case

Proxies for SERP tracking

Rank trackers want a monthly subscription, and you only want to watch the keywords for your own project. Building one is a weekend's work. The hard part is that search engines are among the quickest sites on the internet to spot automated queries.
Sound familiar?

What goes wrong

Search engines see more scrapers than anyone. They block fast, often by range, sometimes on the first request.

  • A CAPTCHA page after a handful of queries
  • Hosting and VPS ranges blocked from the very first request
  • Results that shift with the location the engine assigns to your IP
  • Personalised results because your queries share cookies
How a proxy helps

What changes with one

Home addresses get the normal page

Queries from consumer ISP addresses look like the ordinary traffic a search engine serves all day.

One keyword, one address

With rotation per request, each keyword check comes from a different IP, so no address builds up a query history.

A fixed vantage point when you need one

An ISP IP keeps one residential-looking address in the country you picked, for the whole term. Use it to watch results for one market over time.

When it will not help

Rank depends on location, language and device, and a scraped result page is never exactly what a signed-in person sees. Residential has no country selector here. The pool covers 180+ countries and you get whichever one the rotation hands you. For results pinned to one country, use an ISP IP there and set the engine's own location and language parameters.

Which line

What to run it on

Start here

Residential

Search engines block hosting ranges quickly. Rotating home IPs is the setup that keeps answering, and a daily keyword check moves very little data.

from $1.75/GB

Or

ISP

When every query must come from one country. Keep the rate slow: one static address making many queries will get challenged.

from $1.50/IP/mo

Back of the envelope

What it would cost

Worked out from today’s price list with the assumptions shown. Your pages will weigh something else, so measure fifty of them and redo the sum.

Residential, by the GB

A hundred keywords, each checked once a day for thirty days

Requests3,000

Weight each~200 KB

Traffic≈ 0.6 GB

Top-up that covers it1 GB

Rate at that size$5.50/GB

Cost$5.50

Assumes one results page fetched as HTML, compressed on the wire, headers counted. We meter request bytes plus response bytes. The rate is set by the size of one top-up and applies to all of it, and the balance does not expire.

In code

The short version

Swap in your own credentials from the dashboard. It also lists the host and port for each order; where they differ from this example, the dashboard is right.

rank.py
from urllib.parse import quote_plus
from playwright.sync_api import sync_playwright

PROXY = {"server": "http://resi.proxymonkey.io:8000", "username": "USER", "password": "PASS"}

with sync_playwright() as p:
    browser = p.chromium.launch(proxy=PROXY)
    for keyword in ["cheap proxies", "scrapy proxy setup"]:
        page = browser.new_page()
        page.goto("https://search.example.com/search?q=" + quote_plus(keyword))
        print(keyword, page.locator("h3").all_inner_texts()[:10])
        page.close()
    browser.close()

What is off limits

  • Faking clicks on results or ads to push your own site up. That is fraud.
  • Posting comments or reviews in bulk to move rankings. That is spam.
  • Creating accounts automatically to leave reviews is on the grey list at best. Ask before you build it.

From our acceptable use policy. We close accounts that break it, and refund the unused balance when we do.

SERP tracking questions

Do search engines allow this?

Their terms generally prohibit automated queries, and they enforce that by blocking. Our acceptable use policy allows SEO and SERP monitoring. Whether a given engine tolerates it is between you and the engine.

How many queries per IP is safe?

Nobody publishes a number and it changes. With rotation, every query comes from a new address, which sidesteps the question. On a static ISP IP, keep it to a slow trickle with random gaps between queries.

Why do my rankings differ from what I see in my browser?

Your browser results are personalised by history, login and exact location. Proxy results reflect the IP's location with no history. Track the trend over weeks and ignore single-day jumps.

Headless browser or plain HTTP?

Plain HTTP when the result page works without JavaScript: fewer bytes, no images. We meter request plus response bytes, so a full browser load can cost several times what the HTML alone does. Block images if you do use a browser.
