Japan proxies

Collectors hunting figures, retro games and trading cards end up on Japanese marketplaces. Some of them only half work from abroad, and one of the biggest does not load from Europe at all.

Start on ISP.

Watchers poll the same searches all day, often while logged in to keep a watchlist. One stable address that reads as a Japanese home line does that without looking like a server farm.

ISP and datacenter cost the same per IP right now, so the choice comes down to whether the site cares what kind of address you are on.

Why Japan

What people check from here

The hobby here is watching: a saved Mercari search for a sold-out figure, a Yahoo! Auctions category for a console, a Rakuten price for an import. The listings move fast and the good ones go in minutes, so people poll. Some Japanese shops behave differently for foreign visitors, and Yahoo! JAPAN stopped serving the EEA and the UK entirely in 2022.

  • Mercari saved searches for new listings
  • Yahoo! Auctions categories and ending times
  • Rakuten and Amazon.co.jp prices in JPY
  • Japan-only pages that redirect foreign visitors

Japan questions

Why does Yahoo! JAPAN not load from Europe?

Yahoo! JAPAN stopped serving visitors in the EEA and the UK in April 2022, so from a European IP many of its services, auctions included, will not load. A Japanese IP gets you the site as it is in Japan. Its terms still apply to you.

Do I need to search in Japanese?

Mostly, yes. The IP gets you in, but Mercari and Yahoo! Auctions listings are written in Japanese, so a search in English finds a fraction of them. URL-encode your Japanese keywords and you are set.

Ordering, stock and metering work the same in every country: see the locations page.

The community layer

Stuck on a Japan target? Ask the channel.

Say which site you are checking from Japan and what it is doing to you. Someone has usually hit the same wall and will tell you which line gets past it before you spend anything.
